There’s a lot happening in the world, and in our nervous systems.
Between election-year stress, ongoing wars, climate anxiety, and social division, it’s easy to feel like peace is a luxury we can’t afford. But what if we treated emotional stability like less of a privilege and more of a practice?
That’s the heartbeat of our new live series, “It’s an Honor to Treat You,” hosted by Matt Cartwright
(@matterofpractice), LCSW, a psychotherapist, spiritual life coach, and TEDx speaker, and me, Gahmya Drummond-Bey of @EvolvedTeacher.
Together, we’re talking about how to practice emotional presence in a culture of chaos, and how to become your own therapist when the world feels unwell.
For the first two weeks, we’re diving into identity, practice, and presence, three things that feel harder to hold onto than ever before.
Right now, America feels like one big identity crisis.
Every headline, election debate, and social post is asking us to pick a side. But somewhere in all that noise, we’ve lost the ability to just be ourselves.
In “Do You Know Who I Am?”, Matt guided us through the tension between who we show the world and who we really are. He challenged us to notice the masks we’ve learned to wear, especially the ones built from survival, not self-expression. Because when we define ourselves by reactions to the world instead of connection with the self, we start living from defense, not authenticity.
Then, in “It’s All a Matter of Practice,” we got real about healing, not as a one-time breakthrough, but as a daily rhythm.
In an age of outrage and burnout, self-therapy means choosing peace on purpose.
This conversation reminded us that we don’t become emotionally healthy by accident. We do it by showing up, one breath, one boundary, one honest reflection at a time.
By Week 2, we started to turn the mirror outward and ask: What are we adding to the collective energy?
America feels heavy, politically divided, emotionally reactive, and spiritually tired.
So, this week, we asked the hard questions: What energy are we walking into rooms with? Are we bringing curiosity or comparison? Compassion or chaos?
Because the truth is, every time we enter a conversation, we’re co-creating culture. It was sooo powerful!
Then came the question, “What Does It Mean to Be Yourself?”, and that one hit deep.
We talked about how easy it is to lose ourselves to our roles, responsibilities, and expectations, especially in a system that rewards performance over presence.
But being yourself isn’t a luxury. It’s how you protect your sanity. It’s how you stay human in a world that keeps trying to make you something else.
The series goes on for 8 sessions, so we are halfway through! Be sure to catch us livestreaming on Instagram at @evolvedteacher.

Remember:
We can’t fix everything happening in the world.
But we can learn to treat ourselves, and one another, with honor.
Join us live every Wednesday at 9PM EST / Thursday 8:30AM KST on Instagram @EvolvedTeacher.
Together, we’ll practice the courage to feel, the power to pause, and the grace to begin again.
